Description
It was a quiet day, an unusual day, a momentous day when she had her novel idea:
Instead of rushing off to the next appointment, checking off one out of too many items on her list, answering texts and emails – she grabbed a book, left her phone in the car, and walked away from it all.
Just for the afternoon. It wasn’t an escape from life, her life – but it was a time away to enjoy time to herself.
The tree she found leaned at the perfect angle to support her as she read. When she looked up, she looked out – into a vista of green meadows and blue sky, wispy clouds dancing gracefully across the mountain tops. It was warm and sunny, and the breeze was just right.
The landscape opening out before her reminded her of what she was reading in her book, and she could have been one of the characters herself – walking through the wildflowers, on her way to the next step in her adventure.
The artwork, A Novel Landscape, invites you to experience the joy of such a novel idea yourself. How many of us spend our days rushing, moving, doing, being there at the right time so that we can do the next thing? (And there is always, always, a “next thing.”) Such is the life we come to expect in our frenetic, busy world that wraps itself around commerce and business and making money (usually, for someone else).
And why is it that, when we say, “That’s enough! I need some time in a quiet, remote place. I’m just going to grab and book and be gone for awhile,” we feel as if we have to apologize for this, as if taking time to simply enjoy our day is something to feel guilty about?
It isn’t. It’s something to learn how to do, just the way she did.
It’s a novel idea, and it’s worth immersing ourselves in.
(The landscape for A Novel Landscape is in the Andes Mountains of near Pamplona, Colombia, South America.)
