Description

Set in the midst of fields, a country home welcomes travelers on the way.

This is August, deep in the summer in the country, when all the grass that was green in the spring turns golden and ready for autumn’s rains. The wheat harvest on the farms is over, and there is a sleepy break in the middle of the season before fall’s plantings begin.

Because of the heat of the season, it is a sleepy time overall, and for those who don’t have air conditioning (not everyone does), the pace of life slows once the coolness of the morning wears off. In the evening, it is time to sit on the porch with a cool drink and review the day.

August, the artwork, is a reminder to us to slow down, to stop taking life so seriously, to put aside our list – mental or actual – and take a siesta from all the busyness. In the country, away from the sound and the hubbub of the city, it is easier to slow down life’s pace and breathe gently and slowly. But sadly, even in the country the tentacles of modern life reach out and grab out hearts and souls – the cell phone buzzes, the computer blinks, someone on social media makes a comment that requires (so we think) an instant response.

Life is so much more than living it at a fast, frenetic pace. Stepping into the world of August, through the fields and toward the house, we anticipate a cool drink once we enter inside, a relief from the sun overhead, a time of quiet and contemplation that allows us to refresh our mind and our spirit.

With deep, broad brush strokes, August the feeling of the golden fields – gently, ever so gently waving in the very slight summer breeze. Step into the world of August and let life slow down for awhile.
