Description

It is a moment of exquisite beauty and luxuriant peace.

A young woman, stepping from the bath or to the bath (because representational art tells a story, and it is given to the viewer to tell it), exults in light flowing through the windows of her eyrie escape, high above the lights and sounds of the city. Green plants set among the steps add a sense of the outside to the inside, and the arched windows of the glazed glass room serve as a portico, separating the quietness of the room from the busyness outside, far below.

Stretching with the grace of a dancer, the woman pauses for a moment of quiet, rejoicing in the warmth of the sunlight on her skin, the relaxation of the bath, the time of blissful solitude away from the demands and the hurry and the anxiety of modern life.

Bathed in Light, the artwork, invites the viewer to step into this sanctuary of quietness and peace, this place of reflection and tranquility, this sanctum of serenity.

The bath is, indeed, such a place, and many people find relief and respite from the day’s activity behind a closed door, soaking in warm, soothing water, sometimes with a book, and sometimes not. If a knock comes at the door, we simply slip down a little further in the water and pretend that we did not hear it.

Few are the places these days where we can escape: out in the wilderness comes to mind, but for many of us, a trip to the wilderness takes time and planning. A trip to the bath, for a soak of an hour or so, involves little more than grabbing the book, a candle, some essential oils, and we are set for an evening’s escape.
