Description
Taking a break on a busy evening, Santa takes time to do what he knows best.
And what Santa knows best how to do, because he spends his entire career focusing on it, is how to enjoy life with the joy and innocence of a child.
It is Christmas Eve, and though this is the busiest time of the year for Santa – with an entire planet of households to reach before Christmas morning dawns – the jolly yet extremely wise elf can’t resist taking a moment to show a very awake boy the intricacies of the model train.
Time management business practices would frown upon this, insisting that Santa keep to his schedule. But Santa, who has been delivering presents to children around the world for many, many generations, always builds time into his Christmas Eve travel plans for unexpected moments like this.
After all, if the child took time to be up and waiting, is it right to hurry away?
Actually, this is a good question for all of us who have children in our lives to ask. As adults in a business-driven society, we constantly operate on a limited amount of time to do far too many things, and we find ourselves saying, “Later, we’ll get to this.”
But frequently, later comes sooner than we think, we still have too many things to get done in not enough time, and we hurry away from the child, the one who took time to be up and waiting.
Boys and Their Trains, the artwork, is an encouragement to us to stop a moment, get down on our knees with the toys, and truly take time to be with, interact with, and play with that child. We may find, as we make time to do so, that the too many things demanding our limited time, aren’t quite so important as what we’ve been told they are.
May the spirit of Christmas be with you, all through the year.
