Artist's Description
In a moment of pure joy and happiness, a young woman at the beach laughs in, and at, the surf. Holding a basket of colorful fabric, she leans toward the beach and stops in surprise as the fabric begins to cascade toward the ground, more and more quickly as momentum builds up.
Why is the woman holding a basket of colorful fabric on the beach? We don’t know, but because Into the Surf is a representational painting, we are invited to enter into the scene, become part of the story, and tell the story ourselves.
Such is the beauty of representational art: it shows us a glimpse of the world beyond, the world where things don’t always have to make sense, because there is an element of magic, an element of intrigue, an element of mystery to it.
In this world, life doesn’t stop in the office cubicle or in the aisles of the grocery store. In this world, life is a place of wonder, joy, and imagination, a place of color, form, and emotion, a place where there is potentia...
About Steve Henderson
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
