With confidence and grace, today's woman strides forth toward adventure and life.

Confidence is an interesting element in anyone’s character – a necessary element, but one that is all too easily blended with arrogance, in which case we have confidence misplaced. Indeed, the best sort of confidence is that tempered by humility – the recognition that one is not God and cannot run things like Him, but at the same time, one is not beholden to a pagan sort of God, one who is irritable and mysterious and uncommunicative, or worse, be stuck under the capriciousness of fate.

Cadence, the artwork, invites the viewer into the world of a young woman who is confident indeed – it shows in her walk, the graceful sweep of her arm, the fabric billowing to the side in the breeze. Her back is straight and she moves forth gracefully and strongly, sure of where she is going.

But she is not arrogant. There is a slight relaxation to the shoulders, a very small tilt to the head, that bespeak a diffidence, that mild self-deprecation that is so crucial in keeping us from becoming overinflated balloons of pontificating pride and self-importance.

One time, a viewer who purported to be Christian commented on Cadence, “We’re supposed to be humble before God! There is no place for confidence there.”

Seriously? As children of God, beloved sons and daughters, we possess the full confidence within a family of acceptance and peace, before a Father who trains us, teaches us, delights in us, and wants us to work beside Him in loving the people He has made in this world. This cannot be done when we see ourselves as worms, or wretched, disgusting things.

Step into Cadence, and walk forth each day in the confidence that you are beautiful, unique, and created for a reason and purpose, one that God alone will unfold before you as you walk beside Him each day.
