Description

A cool evening breeze meets with sunset's warm glow, as a life traveler strolls through the surf.

So often, when we think of the ocean, we automatically associate it with the color blue, because all water is blue, we reason, even though a quick glance at a glass of water in clear glass should disabuse us of this notion.

Water takes on the color, through reflection, of its surroundings, and in the artwork, Catching the Breeze, the surrounding environment is that of sunset, with its myriad of pinks, reds, corals, oranges, rusts, and other colors on the warm, very warm, spectrum of the color wheel.

Catching the Breeze invites us in with the strolling woman, to kick off our shoes and walk in the sand and surf in the last light of the day. It is a time of reflection, thought, meditation, quiescence, and peace – emotions that the surf and the sea spark in the hearts of those who visit, or live on, the coast.

The only sounds we hear are that of the surf – gentle, repetitive but not quite the same each time, a background whisper that does not interrupt our flow of thought. The temperature is warm from the sun on our face, interspersed with cool as the evening draws in and emphasizes the temperature of the water.

Such contrast is not unpleasant, and it reminds us that life is filled with such variances – joy with sadness, hope with disappointment, life with death, death with life – and it is worth taking time alone, in a peaceful place, to reflect upon the deeper, more eternal issues of life, and not dwell extensively or exclusively in our worlds of business, busy-ness, anxiety, and deadlines.

Step out of the world of modernity to one of timelessness, by taking a walk along the beach with Into the Surf.
