Clean water. Clean air. Good food and enough of it for all.
For all that media talks about “saving the planet,” the “solutions” it propounds have much to do with strengthening the power of corporations and the very wealthy at the expense of the right to live, decently and with dignity, by ordinary people. Or, for that matter, for the planet to be a place where clean water, clean air, and good food and enough of it for all are a priority. To the Planet Masters, profits rule, and when profits rule, both nature and humanity are attacked.
The artwork, Crystal Clear, takes the viewer to a place where the water is fresh and uncontaminated by industrial waste, where the air is not filled with smog and smoke. It is silent here, peaceful, and the animals that live in the forest and around the lake go about their lives without worrying about cars and drones, litter and garbage, or the intrusive interference of those human beings who see pristine landscapes as great places to put a strip mall. Politicians don’t come here because it’s not a famous, trendy place, and to get here you have to hike.
The people who come here are those who want to escape the trappings of modern life, and repose, if only for an afternoon or a weekend, in a secluded spot where the cell phone doesn’t work very well. They want to stand at the sides of the bank and look out at the still, still water. In the silence, in the stillness, their thoughts slow down as well, and they breathe deeply, slowly of the clean, cool, crisp air.
Surrounded by nature’s finery, they – we – are able to pursue those persistent questions in our mind, in which we seek answers, look for truths that are actually true, and ponder our purpose in life, the meaning of our existence.
And these have nothing to do with corporate profits.
