Description
It is a sunlit, spring day and the flowers are fully in bloom. A light breeze blows, adding the perfect touch of coolness to the day’s warmth, and the young woman in the garden glories in the day, the flowers, the sunlight, and the hope and joy that all of this brings.
She is enchanted.
Enchanted is an interesting word, in some aspects implying that one has come under the spell or enchantment of another – and not always to one’s benefit, as anyone who reads fairy tales knows. But enchanted in its wonderful sense means just that – one is captivated by the moment, totally involved in what is going on here and now, dancing in a great, beautiful ballroom of the outdoors where everything is perfect.
The young woman in the artwork, Enchanted, is absorbed in a moment of reflection, introspection, meditation, and thought. Surrounded by a panoply of flowers, she is in a quiet place that is free from the sounds we associate with “modern” life – the telephone buzzing, cars honking, doors slamming, people shouting. And while life in the city does not always sound like this, life in the countryside tends to move at a different, slower, more meditative pace.
Enchanted invites the viewer to enter into the world of the different, slower, more meditative pace, joining the young woman in the garden (or even, being the young woman in the garden) as she feels the sun warming her skin, smells the aroma of the wildflowers in the field surrounding her, and hears the gentle sounds that one expects to hear in such a place – the hum of insects, the chirping of birds, the whisper of the breeze through the foliage.
It is a day for being happy, a time to fully immerse oneself in the state of being Enchanted.
