Soft colors gently glow as sunset brushes across the Willamette River in Oregon.

It’s difficult to believe unless you are there, but this particular stretch of the Willamette River – which looks so pristine and so distinctly out in the midst of nature – is actually in the midst of the busy freeway system near Portland, OR. Most of the time, people go flying by this sight, but when one parks off away from the traffic and walks down and along the river, one transports self into a place of beauty and tranquility.

Of course, with the freeway nearby, the noise is still there, but the further one walks, the more deeply one penetrates the secret of the river, the less one hears the traffic and the more one focuses on the sounds of the river itself, the birds in the trees overhead, the buzzing of insects, even the crunch of one’s feet on the gravel of the banks.

A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
