Description

Eventide is an archaic word for evening.

There’s something about the word that evokes a sense of nostalgia, of quiet and peace, of tranquility and calm – all words that describe, quite well, the emotion brought about by the artwork, Eventide.

A small work in its original form – 6 inches high by 8 inches long – the artwork Eventide yet fits in a very big world, the world of the sunset at the ocean coast, a sunset that changes from moment to moment, and even second to second.

Anyone who has stood at the edge of the beach, toes dipping in the gentle surf of a calm tide, knows that the colors and the shapes of a coastal sunset do not stay still for long, if at all. With every incremental movement in the sun’s descent to the horizon, the clouds reflect the glow of the sun’s rays, or they recede into shadow, turning a deeper color of violet, or charcoal, or red.

At eventide, it is enough to simply stand and quietly observe the performance of the sun and reflection and sky, to marvel at the shifting and changing colors, to allow a sensation of awe to come into our heart and grow into something as big and marvelous as the ocean seascape itself.

And although the view is intense and dramatic, it is anything but stressful and loud. Rather, the experience of eventide at the beach is one of great calm, great peace, great tranquility, as we step away from the busy-ness that we so readily accept as normal in life, and walk into a place of beauty and goodness, of serenity, composure, and repose.

This is a place where we want to stay and absorb its emotion. This is Eventide.
