Eventide is an archaic word for evening.

There’s something about the word that evokes a sense of nostalgia, of quiet and peace, of tranquility and calm – all words that describe, quite well, the emotion brought about by the artwork, Eventide.

A small work in its original form – 6 inches high by 8 inches long – the artwork Eventide yet fits in a very big world, the world of the sunset at the ocean coast, a sunset that changes from moment to moment, and even second to second.

Anyone who has stood at the edge of the beach, toes dipping in the gentle surf of a calm tide, knows that the colors and the shapes of a coastal sunset do not stay still for long, if at all. With every incremental movement in the sun’s descent to the horizon, the clouds reflect the glow of the sun’s rays, or they recede into shadow, turning a deeper color of violet, or charcoal, or red.

I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
