Dancing with delight, the Canyon Sprite greets the light of a new day.

The artwork, Eyrie, invites the viewer to join the Canyon Sprite in this dance of joy and exuberance, experiencing with her the sense of freedom that comes when we rejoice in the beauty of the world around us. Poised at the edge of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Canyon Sprite catches the warming rays of the morning sun on her face as she closes her eyes and simply feels the majestic vastness of the scene before her.

Nature is a good teacher, when we listen to what she says, and one of the things she says is that she is beautiful, majestic, grand, and so much more than any man-made object, even the grandest of skyscrapers shining in the sun on the skyline.

Such grandeur and majesty in which we find the Canyon Sprite is so big, so vast, so timeless in its scope, that we can only stop and wonder at its beauty. And in wondering about and over something to grand, we escape, for awhile, the small and petty worries that modern life constantly throws in our path.

An eyrie is an eagle’s nest, built high and remote from the land below, accessible only by a great, free, soaring bird whose wings can take it up to the heights. So it is with us when we spread our own wings in flight, soaring away from the office cubicles and the traffic jams and the sounds and modern life that assail our ears and our souls. When we escape to to the Eyrie of the Canyon Sprite, we find ourselves in a place that is quiet, peaceful, and always waiting for us when we are off busy doing our busy things somewhere else.
