Description
It’s a sleepy morning, and as you open the blinds, your mind is on the many things you need to do that day.
And then you completely forget about all of it because . . . it snowed last night!
While you were sleeping the flakes fell, one after another, thousands upon thousands, softly to the ground, where they settled in, snuggled up, and transformed the landscape from winter’s grey to winter’s magic.
It was a light dusting, not a heavy fall, and portions of the landscape peek through; last season’s tall grass stands high above the white and the trees are dark against it.
But it’s snow, fresh snow, new snow, hasn’t-been-walked-on-at-all snow, and you think, “Surely this could be a snow day!”
The artwork, Fresh Snow, invites you to put on your boots, zip up your jacket and (don’t forget your hat!) take a walk up into the mountains where the snow is pristine – there’s no city traffic up here to blow exhaust onto the whiteness, no crowds of feet to tramp this perfect carpet down. If you look hard enough you may see some footprints, but they aren’t from a human – deer wander around here, bunnies lope, birds hop, life goes on up here, but it’s a different kind of life.
We call this particular hill Cahill, and it’s located in the southeastern corner of Washington state, near a little town called Dayton, but there are hills like this, countrysides like this, fresh snow days like this, all around the world, landscapes that are ready to be discovered and enjoyed when we decide to take the time to do so.
And what better day to do this, what better time to decide to take a snow day and go exploring, than on a day when there is fresh snow?
