Description
It would be delightful to spend time here, in the little house with the red roof, nestled at the base of the mountain.
Trees ring the yard, forming a natural fence, and in the pasture just outside their border, a group of sheep chomp contentedly on the green grass. Now and then you hear one bleat, another answer, but for the most part it is quite silent, quiet calm.
The artwork, Green Pastures, invites us to the little house with the red roof, encourages us to step outside into the meadow and walk around with the sheep. (They may run, because sheep do that – sometimes they panic at a strange sound or situation and flee heedlessly, mindlessly following a leader; but other times, when they know and trust us because we’ve taken time and are the type of person to be someone they can know and trust, they continue with their feeding. Humans can learn a lot about how to act, and not act, by studying sheep.)
It’s a cool day in spring, with clouds blocking the sun, but the sun being what it is, it can’t be blocked for long. Now and then it peeks through the clouds and sends a ray down onto the ground.
And then there’s that mountain, looming behind the little house with the red roof. Strong, silent, imposing and yet protective, the mountain holds fast to that winter’s snow. Its sheer size and overwhelming presence is a comforting reminder to us of how big the world is, how much of it is beyond our ability to conquer and dominate, how even the grasping hands of the most greedy men can’t mangle and manipulate everything.
The mountain is timeless, silent, comfortable with its existence, and not planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
No wonder it feels so good to spend time here.
