Artist's Description
The knock is soft, but loud enough to be noticed, prompting us to stop and listen.
When you think about it, knocks on the door come in all forms and volumes, with a personality all their own. Some are peremptory and sharp, startling us from what we were doing. Others are soft, almost timid, to the point that we wonder if we heard them at all.
Others are confident and firm, the knock of a person who knows us well and is trying to gain access to us.
This is the knock in the artwork, I Stand at the Door and Knock, a quote from Revelation 3:20, attributed to Christ. It’s an interesting idea, that of the Messiah, standing outside, knocking for our attention in the same way a friend would come to the back door at the kitchen (the door by which friends enter).
This is not a threatening knock, an impatient knock, an irritated knock – which are attributes, unfortunately, that many have come to associate with Christ in His relationship to us. This is the knock of...
About Steve Henderson
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.

Very well done, sir! As a person who has studied filmmaking for years I really appreciate this scene. I love the fact that you are left imaging Jesus at the door rather than see Him, which is what is typically shown. We are put in her space and in her world in a moment in time. And the character is portrayed in a way that makes you question if she will respond positively to the knock! It is a pause in time that each of us is brought to daily while going about our business. If we are listening with our spiritual ears to His prompting how will we act?! Excellent, ((applause))!
Steve Henderson replied:
Thank you, Adam. I appreciate your insight and sensitivity to the moment presented in this work. That concept of presenting just enough but not too much in a creative piece is a powerful one.
