Description

Autumn's blazing oranges create a contrast against a vibrant blue sky. The air is cool and brisk, and yet in the sunlight there is warmth and light.

This is Indian Summer in the country. It is a transition time between summer and fall, that magical period when the intense heat of late summer is gone, and yet the chilling blasts of autumn have not yet arrived.

Color is everywhere: in the trees, late blooming flowers, rippling grasses. There are oranges, reds, golds, yellows, rusts, corals; indeed, it is a time when Nature pulls out her paint palette and joyously uses every color at her disposal.

Above, there is a cloudless sky, the perfect contrast to all the exuberant color beneath.

The artwork, Indian Summer, invites the viewer to step into a broad, deep country landscape, one encircled by a benevolent series of hills. Amongst the trees, a river placidly flows, its surface glinting and twinkling in reflection to the sun.

This is a quiet place, a peaceful place, a place where we can sit and simply think. The noises -- or sounds, really -- are pleasant: the whisper of the breeze, the merry call of birds, the buzzing and chirruping of insects. So subtle are they that we hardly notice them, but they enter into our thoughts and become a part of the day.

How often do we do this? How often do we ramble through the remote country fields with no particular place to go � and certainly no definite time to be there � and simply listen to the gentle, quiet sounds, feel the warmth of the sunlight on our skin, breathe deeply of the fresh, crisp air?

Probably, not often enough. Stop for a moment, step into the landscape of Indian Summer, and simply enjoy being in a tranquil, serene place.
