Description
Christmas is a time for children of all ages, which means that, despite being grown up, adults are invited to the party as well. The key aspect is that one must retain – or bring into one’s life, if we have lost it – the mind and wonderment of the child.
Little Angel Bright shows us what this mind and wonderment looks like, as a little girl is lifted to the top of the tree by none other than Santa himself. Her eyes shine brighter than the Christmas tree lights because this moment is special indeed – because the lights are beautiful, because the angel is bright and shining, and because Santa is there, decorating the tree with her.
How impressive is that, spending the evening with Santa, as opposed to staying up late at night, hiding behind the door, and hoping to catch a glimpse of the man as he stops to eat a cookie left out on the coffee table?
Such a scene is impossible in the mind of an adult, but in the mind of a child – all things are possible. Children do not spend their time and energy putting forth arguments to refute possible scenarios; frequently, they think their way through how they would act if such scenarios became possible.
Obviously, as adults we move past the belief in Santa Claus, but in doing so, we lose some of the sense of magic and wonder that children bring into regular moments of their day. It can become so ordinary to us to think about adult matters – the traffic level on the freeway, the amount of next month’s utility bill, the very cost of a purchasing a Christmas tree from the lot – that we dwell in the ordinary, and do not allow ourselves, ever, to step into the magical.
Little Angel Bright reminds us that somewhere inside of us is an element of the child we once were, and it’s worth getting in touch with it now and again.
