Description
It doesn’t matter what the day’s weather looks like when you’re at the Grand Canyon – sun or clouds, mist or clear, rain or dry – the canyon shows its best side during all of them.
The colors are dynamic and ever changing. As the sun glances across the surface of the rocks, it highlights the colors, and when mist obscures the golden rays, it brings out different hues. And with those different hues there are new emotions – thoughtful, reflective, mysterious, pensive, serene.
What an amazing place this is, this magnificent, huge cleft in the rocky landscape that we call the Grand Canyon! While it is physically located in Arizona of the U.S., and parts of it are officially named a National Park, the Grand Canyon is not something that can be tucked away and labeled, classified and sorted, “owned” by any nation, corporation, or person.
Timeless and magnificent, the Grand Canyon teases the minds of those who see it: how was it formed? When? How?
Various groups propound their opinions, and, as is the case with many groups and belief systems, insist that theirs is the proper explanation, even though there is no way to go back a billion years, or to the first seven days of creation, or to any other time period that a group avers is host to the creation of this mind-boggling geographical phenomenon.
What all can agree upon, however, is the accuracy of the place’s name: it is a canyon, and it is, indeed, grand.
Misty Canyon, the artwork, captures the Grand Canyon on a cloudy, overcast day. But it is not a gloomy one! Sunlight breaks through the clouds and lightly washes over the landscape, piercing the mist and highlighting the form and texture of the rocks and trees in the image’s foreground. Warm rays dispel cool air.
It is a time and place of quiet, of reflection, of immense and incredible beauty.
It’s simply grand.
