Mothers love and protect their children.
Throughout the natural world – in the realm of Mother Nature – this is the norm. This is normal, this is right, this is good, this is natural.
Anyone with doubts might consider what happens when you get between a mother polar bear and her cubs. Or a goose and her goslings. Even the domestic house cat gains a measure of ferocity when she hears the frightened mew of her kittens.
The artwork, Mother Nature Holding the Future, celebrates this very normal, very right, very good, very natural element of life, that of a mother holding and guiding, nurturing and teaching, embracing and loving her child.
Of course, the nature of motherhood is a challenge for many of us in “modern” societies. From our own infancy, we have been trained and educated to discount our instincts and commonsense judgment, replacing the natural and the real with the voices of “experts.” But if we stand strong and tall, confident in the intelligence, wisdom, and compassion we are able to possess as human beings, we, too, can join the polar bear and the goose and the house cat in being the protector and guide that our children, and our grandchildren, and all the little ones within our family circle, need. And the more we do this, the more natural it becomes.
Mother Nature – the nature of motherhood – lives in all who are mothers. In the natural world – the world that is far from the media and the office cubicle and the entertainment industry and the political arena and the financial cartels -- we do what is right because we feel and love, operating on a level of spirituality and metaphysical mystery that does not exist in the false worlds of commerce and politics.
We hold the future in our arms.
