Artist's Description

There is something about the unexpected that delights.

It’s one of the reasons autumn is such a captivating season – tree leaves that have been green, the color we expect them to be, for many months, suddenly emerge in a blaze of orange and red, gold and coral. They shout out to us to stop whatever we’re doing and marvel at the new hues.

But not only trees change their raiment, altering our expectations of reality. On the ground, some bushes put on a show as well, and when there are enough of them, they transform the entire landscape.

Such is the situation with the artwork Seeing Red at the Seven Devils.

High in the mountains of Idaho, USA, in the Hells Canyon Wilderness, we come upon a meadow where the undergrowth, which we expect to be green or brown, is unanticipatedly, vibrantly, red. The result is the transformation of an “ordinary” wilderness scene (really, what is ever “ordinary” about the wilderness?) into something other worldly, surre...

About Steve Henderson

Steve Henderson

I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
