Description
Have you ever been reading a book, and found yourself getting so . . . sleepy . . . that you can’t quite follow the print on the page?
Sometimes we fight our way through it, continuing to read. Frequently, though, on the next day when we pick up the book again, we can’t remember anything that happened in the last several pages.
“I didn’t read that, did I?” we ask ourselves. “I must have put the marker in the wrong place.” (Or, if you’re like some people, dog eared the page. Some people get really, really upset with people who do this.)
The artwork, Somnolent, invites us to let. ourselves. relax.
A young woman sprawls on a settee, heels kicked back, her right arm encircling her head. The other arm reaches down to the book, which she holds open with her hand. She is not in a state of intense concentration, and it is highly likely that this is not a textbook she is reading.
Rather, it is a novel – a charming novel with engaging characters set in an enchanting story. It could be Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Or Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. Whatever it is, it is a book that relaxes the mind while it tantalizes it.
Wrapped in a towel or sarong, the woman has just emerged from the bath, and she made it to the divan with the book. Surrounded by warmth and contentment, safe in the privacy and quiet of her home, she allows herself to fall into a state of deep relaxation.
There is no TV blaring, no voices in the background intoning the end of the world. If there is music, it is harmonious, peaceful. This is a moment of intense delectation and delight, and we are in absolutely no hurry for it to end.

this happens to me quite often when I'm watching something on the computer. It's a program I want to watch but somehow, I start to become somnolent. Lovely work, Steve. L/F/Tw/Pin
