Country roads invite us to leisurely drive along them.
In the past, when a “traditional” contemporary work schedule was 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, Sunday afternoon was a quiet time of leisure (or should have been; there are always those who insist upon filling every moment with busy work). It was an excellent time to jump in the car and simply drive, viewing the scenery through the windows like scenes in a nature documentary.
Sunday Drive, the artwork, invites the viewer to stop whatever he or she is doing and take such a drive. The road, for now, is straight, heading into the mountains in the distance. It is an overcast day, a bit drizzly, and it feels good to be in the car with the heater on.
The landscape is a country one – coming up is an old fashioned, well preserved, and still actively used red barn, which contrasts beautifully with the green, green grass of the meadows and the fields.
This is a quiet, peaceful place, a rural country...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
