Description
An array of flowers surround a woman set in a pose of thoughtful quietude. There is a sense of vintage nostalgia to the scene, a timelessness which takes us back to the days when the room in which the woman stands was not called a bedroom but a boudoir.
It even sounds more romantic – “boudoir.” Perhaps because it’s a French word, which always sound more romantic than their English counterparts. Perhaps because of the connotations of time associated with the term boudoir – Regency Romance days, the heyday of writer Georgette Heyer who popularized the time and the era.
The artwork, Thoughtful, invites us back to these days of romance and quiet and flowers and elegant furniture and the boudoir. These were days before shabby chic and flipping-houses-country-style, and overpriced mason jars as vases and the endless, mind numbingly boring “word art” that pronounces “family is forever,” or “The Lord Lives Here,” or whatever else one finds in the bargain bins at the boxstores.
Thoughtful, as a work of skillfully painted representational art, transports the viewer out of their room and routine into the boudoir of the young woman. Thoughtful invites the viewer to enjoy the flowers in the room, to enter quietly so as not to disturb the young woman, and to rest quietly and not worry about all the things we find to worry about every day.
The boudoir of the young woman in Thoughtful is uniquely her own, filled with treasured mementos and beautiful things, and she did not have to rely upon the experts at HGTV to tell her what to put there, what colors to use, how to add a pop of color with the throw pillow and make her room look exactly like what she saw on TV. And because it is her room, filled with the things that mean much to her, she is at home there.
Thoughtful is featured on 23 Fine Art America groups.

Steve, you are so talented. You really know how to bring the emotions to your paintings. Well done!
Steve Henderson replied:
That kind of emotional response: one of pleasure, of thoughtfulness, of pondering, of serenity -- that is exactly what we strive for: bringing a sense of beauty and of depth into people's lives.
