Who is she waiting for?

In the artwork, Timeless, the viewer of the painting stumbles into a magic forest, a place of enchantment and mysticism that is quiet and still. Deep within the woods is a pond, and across the pond is a gazebo, its festive golden lights glowing through the mistiness of the wooded glade.

A young woman stands, still and silent, her hands resting against the tree at her side. She stares across the water to the gazebo, her bearing poised yet rigid as she seeks for the person – the very special person – who is not there.

Is he late? Is she early? Is she just arriving, ready to get into the rowboat and cross to the other side? Or did she just step out of the boat, and she turns for one last look before she leaves?

Timeless is a story of romance and love, of fantasy and nostalgia, of poignancy and hope. Its story – its full and continuously revealing story – is ultimately up to the viewer of the painting, as the artist has carefully framed the basic elements from which to work.

This is the beauty and joy of representational artwork – it does not constrain the viewer to one story, one tale, one way of being, but rather, calls upon the viewer to look into his or her soul and build the tale. Each viewer will devise a slightly different story, and even the same viewer will see different elements as he or she encounters the painting in its different lights, its different times of day.

Soft, ethereal, mysterious, enchanting, Timeless invites us to step into a place where anything can happen, where the atmosphere around us is silent – so very silent and still – but ready to awaken to the song of the forest and its hidden mystery.
