Description
It’s that quiet time at the end of the day in Orvieto, Italy, and you are heading home.
Deep in thought, you almost stumble into this warm and inviting house, comfortably ensconced in the middle of the street. Either this is your destination (and oh! What a perfect destination!) or you need to make a choice:
Do you head slightly upwards, to your right?
Or should you turn to the left?
Or perhaps, maybe it’s time to stop for a minute, set down your shopping bags, and enjoy the view of the home in front of you. The warm, golden glow from the top storey balcony is most inviting, a reminder that home is, indeed, the place to be after a long day of being out and about – working, shopping, or being a tourist in a city that is well worth exploring.
Because, you know, though different homes in different places are unique to their surroundings, they are all places meant to be refuges from noise and stress.
To the Right or the Left, the artwork, invites you to explore the world around you, to think about the options you are given, and to consider where each one will lead. You’re not stuck with just one choice: should you decide to turn right, make that little climb, and follow the cobblestoned road as it bends to the left, you can always, on another day, opt to veer left and follow that route.
It’s calming here, at this gentle intersection with the unusual house that commands, in a most friendly fashion, its space. And the easy, relaxing late afternoon is calming as well – a time to reflect upon the day and all that you have done, and to look forward to its closing, when you can relax and rest.
Maybe . . . in that house?
