Description
Bigfoot. Sasquatch. The elusive wanderer through the forest.
Is he myth, or is he real?
Through the years, there have been random sightings of this tall, gangling, hairy fellow (are there female Bigfoots?). If you look up newspaper articles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, you can find accounts of a creature that is far more than a very tall human. Folklore from the indigenous people of North America also include accounts of a humanoid-type being who is very big, very hairy, very shy, very elusive.
There’s too much to discount the reality of the story, and too little to fully validate it.
The artwork, Finding Bigfoot, was created as a commission for a couple who is fascinated by the accounts of Bigfoot. They wanted a work that celebrated their interest and research, with just the slightest twist of humor, because in their lives together, they think that the ability to chuckle at oneself isn’t such a bad thing.
Deep in a dark, mossy forest, the couple stops at the edge of the path, getting their bearings and determining where next to go in their search for Sasquatch. The woman holds a book on Bigfoot, and together they look in amazement at the giant footsteps before them. Bigfoot is very, very close -- they can just sense it.
And this is when it happens – Bigfoot appears!
But as he always does, he appears in such a way that he is not caught on camera, not filmed clearly, and in this case, not even seen. Rapid, silent, evasive, secretive, he makes his soundless way across the path, stepping from the darkness of trees on one side to the shadow of the woods on the other. By the time the couple looks up from their book and glances behind them, he will be gone.
But that's okay, because they've discovered the footprints, and they know, just know, that Bigfoot is very very close to where they are . . .
