Water is mesmerizing.

River or stream, lake or surf – the sounds it makes as if flows, laps against shore, or crashes as surf is a music that enters gently into the mind.

One can sit next to water, eyes closed, and lose oneself in the soft, repetitive movement. Thoughts flow smoothly, like . . . water.

The artwork, Twilight Surf, takes the viewer to such a place. It is evening – deep twilight – and the sun has been making its slow dance through the sky down to the horizon. Each moment as the sun gets closer to setting, the colors of both sky and surf change. At the point where we are standing, there is a delightful dichotomy between the rich, golden glow of light on the horizon and the cool blues and purple of the surf.

The sand of the beach, catching the last reflections of light, is a palette of cool and warm, gold and yellow and orange and brown and grey and blue.

I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
