Description
It is a calm, quiet day up in the Wind River Wilderness of Wyoming, USA, despite the appellation of the place. Join us as we hike through this rugged country, located in a section of the Rocky Mountains known for its robust terrain, clear alpine lakes, and glacial valleys.
At 10,000 feet, the air is crisp, and we might need to move a little more slowly given the lesser oxygen levels at such an altitude. But that’s not a problem, not one at all, because we’re not here to do a marathon. We’re here to breathe in the good air, watch the veriest ripples across the surface of the lake, gaze into the distance at the mountain peaks, and simply experience being in a landscape of beauty, peace, calm, and tranquility.
Isn’t that why we seek out the wilderness?
The artwork, Wind River Country, invites us out of the city or the town into the wild, backwoods country where our cell phones don’t always work. It encourages us to take a break from scrolling through a screen for the latest “news” of all that is wrong with the world and to enter into a world, a real world, that is timeless, majestic, and waiting for us to discover it.
It took a little work to get here, a bit of hiking, but now that we’re here we step off the trail (at the mid-point of the image, along a saddle) so that we can explore the lake. There’s not a trail, per se, along it, but we’ll pick our way along the banks and make an entire circle around, back to our trail.
There’s no hurry. And while we have plans to hike further, see more, explore what’s around the next bend, for now this is more than enough to see and experience.
