The exuberant joy of a child finds its perfect match in a clear, calm puddle.
As adults, we know exactly what this child will do – there’s something about puddles that attract children’s feet like magnets, and we can only cringe when we think of the splash, the wetting of the socks, the sopping of the shoes.
“Can’t you just go around it?” we plead.
Nope.
And if the child could, then she would be giving up one of the unique elements of childhood – the ability to completely and totally enjoy the moment, without constant worrying about the consequences.
And while it’s true that someone, usually an adult, needs to worry about the consequences, sometimes we attribute more importance to those consequences than they actually deserve. Is it such a bad thing, always, to get one’s feet wet? And because this is the beach, the child – very sensibly – doffed the shoes the first thing, because the most important thing about walking on the sand...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.

The best, Steve...this one bringing back my first encounter with the ocean, bare feet experiencing the movement of sand and shells with the rushing tide. It was Florida and already night when we arrived, but all five of us were there with the thrill of the biggest "puddle" nature has to share! Marvelous work! F/L+++
