Rugged, cragged mountain peaks – cliffs that we view from a distance but cannot imagine ever climbing.
This is Ascension, inviting the viewer on a hike in the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon on a late summer day, because by this time, most of last season’s snow has melted, and one can make it along the narrow and winding paths without slipping and sliding – at least on the snow.
The rock formations are bold, sharp edged, massive, and the hiker, upon stopping to rest, takes a moment to view the majestic view before him or her. And because we are human, the first thing we think is, “How can I get up to the top of the mountain?”
It’s not impossible, but it does take skill and equipment. For those who have not invested the time into the skill and the money into the equipment, there is nothing wrong with stopping on the path, contenting oneself with the view, and marveling at the sheer beauty of nature. It is not necessary, to achieve contentment and joy in life...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
