How often do we spend time like this? Indeed, if we stand and stare at the ground, people will come up alongside and ask, “Are you okay? Are you depressed or anything? Your head is hanging down.” So rarely do we take time away from the many obligations facing us to “do nothing.”
It isn’t “doing nothing,” really – thinking. Indeed, taking time to think is one of the most important things we can do, and for this reason, doing dishes by hand isn’t such a bad activity. After all, since we’re officially “doing something,” no one will think us strange, but because what we’re doing – washing dishes – does not engage our whole brain, we are able to think, wonder, contemplate, concentrate, and meditate. Folding clothes serves the same function, providing a new element to chores that we have...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
