She stood still, calm and serene.
Surrounded by chaos, she did not enter into it, but looked beyond it. The gulls around her, wings flapping, launched into flight, their cries adding to the whir of feathers. In the woman’s arms, the baby did what babies do – reached out, tried to touch, leaned into the beach while at the same time keeping contact with mom.
It is a moment and a place of magic, of amazement, of sheer joy over life and movement. The surf around the woman’s feet swirls gently with each incoming wave: everywhere there is motion, change, activity – everywhere but in the woman herself, because she is quietly watching, thinking, absorbing what she sees.
Her calmness is that of a wise woman, a person who does not react to the moment. She is not flighty, easily frightened, pushed and pulled about at the whim of others. She spends too much time thinking to be that. Rather, she is grounded in reality, a truth seeker who, because she takes time to ponde...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
