Description
Romance happens when best friends discover they have eyes only for one another.
Hand in hand.
Three simple words connote a world of romance, one in which a couple walks side by side through life. The artwork, Hand in Hand, joins this couple on the beach, one of the most romantic places on earth.
It is a warm day on a cool beach, and the woman walks, laughing, with the breeze flowing around her skirt. The man has rolled up his pant legs and both are barefoot – the preferred footwear for the beach.
The parasol provides an element of romance because, like most parasols, it can’t provide much protection from the wind or the rain, but the young woman doesn’t mind. So absorbed is she in the conversation with the man she loves, that she – and he – have eyes only for one other person.
Reflection on the sand gives a mirror image to the sky, and although the coloration is slightly grey, it is the perfect day: there is just the right amount of sunshine, just the right amount of breeze, just the right amount of surf bubbling up onto the beach. And what there is most just the right amount of is the feeling of love, romance, trust, and friendship.
Isn’t that what it takes, to make it? Romance is beautiful, and it is timeless – but though it is timeless, the feelings of romance, those perfect feelings, do not exist every moment of the day. Most notable is the time before breakfast when no one has had any coffee or tea. But romance is not the only element to love – the trust and friendship, germinated through those times of romance and perfect walks on the beach, grow deeper and stronger as the couple grows into their love.
Love, romance, trust, friendship – we talk a lot about these (or at least the first two) around Valentine’s Day, but these four elements are not meant to be focused on just one day out of the year. They are timeless.
