Description
Walking on water brings to mind someone who had no difficulty doing so.
The concept of transcending the ordinary, overcoming the many limitations we face as humans, is tantalizing, alluring, captivating.
Deep down, we WANT to experience more than we are physically, mentally, and spiritually able. We know that there is something deeper, richer, more intense than what we’re told is real.
Some seek to fulfill this ache by exploring the alchemical arts. Others, eschewing magic for science, talk about tapping into the energy sources of the universe.
Of those who profess to follow the words of he who walked on water, some flat out condemn the very real, very genuine, distinctively childlike desire to transcend the ordinary. “Not in this world,” they assert. “The next one, if you make it.” Best just to muddle through as best we can. Helpfully, or not, they provide a series of rules.
The artwork, Walking on Water, invites those who want something more – something they can’t pin down but know exists – to kick off their shoes and step into, maybe even onto, the water.
In this quiet, pristine landscape, anything seems possible. Though the alpine air is cool, the sun imbues it with golden essence, warming the bare skin on our shoulders.
In the profound stillness, we are physically, mentally, and spiritually disembodied from the mundane, the prosaic, the very, very limiting world of technocrats and politicos, power brokers and financiers, and the unrelenting propaganda propounded on their mass media.
Their world – focused on their making money and turning that money into power – is sordid.
But this world, this place of hushed stillness, is one in which we can think, imagine, pray, contemplate, question, wonder. And when we do these things – think, imagine, pray, contemplate, question, wonder – we are much closer to walking on water than we are of plowing through puddles.
(Coordinating with Walking on Water is Ripples, a close-up of the lake’s surface. It is available on this site.)
